William Du Toit is a consultant at BBP Law. Overall property law experience gained since 1983, servicing the needs of a diversity of clients throughout South Africa, which includes providing property-related advice to one of the region’s largest petroleum companies.  During this 24-year relationship he has secured the rights to the development of automotive service stations around the country.  He has developed specialist expertise in the petroleum industry and has for the last ten years drafted commercial contracts ranging from property matters, procurement matters and documenting joint facility agreements, such as bunkering agreements in the three largest ports of South Africa.  He is also an accredited mediator.

Experience

  • Confidential clients: Registering approximately 700 personal and praedial servitudes securing trade restrictions, rights of way, pipelines and air space encroachments.
  • Confidential client: Effecting the transfer of 108 properties on which a refinery is constructed with a network of servitudes securing the pipelines leading to and from the refinery.
  • Confidential clients: Creative use of servitudes to secure views from properties, height restrictions, air space encroachments and trading advantages.
  • Confidential clients: Drafting bunkering agreements for joint ventures in South African ports for the major oil companies.

Pieter Koornhof obtained his BA, LLB and LLM degrees from the University of Stellenbosch, and qualified as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa in 2009. Prior to joining academia, he was a commercial litigator. He is a lecturer in the Department of Mercantile and Labour Law, as well as an ad hoc lecturer at the University of Stellenbosch.  He is currently conducting research for a doctorate on the regulatory framework for internet monopolies in competition law. He is also a regular presenter at the annual sessions of the World Intellectual Property Organisation Summer School.

Pieter's primary fields of interest are Competition Law and Information and Communication Technology Law. He is a keen public speaker, and avidly involved in debating and moot court. He has consulted with and presented workshops to firms in various industries in aspects of competition, computer law and labour law. As part of his community interaction, he currently runs training workshops on business law at the Cape Craft and Design Institute, a not-for-profit initiative seeking to develop skills and empower individuals working in the arts and crafts sector in the Western Cape. He is also the company secretary for Full Stack, a start-up company that produces bespoke software and business solutions.

Pieter is available to consult on matters relating to competition law, intellectual property law, information and communication technology law, labour law and general commercial law.

Sidney J. Petersen, is a practicing Attorney (admitted 29 May 1957); Conveyancer (admitted 22 May 1958); and Notary Public (admitted 11 December 1958). Sidney joined BBP Law as a Senior Consultant effectively from 1 January 2016. Prior to his first admission aforesaid, Sidney gained a Diploma in Law from UCT. With more than 50 years of post-qualification experience in legal practice, Sidney continues to practice at BBP Law where his son, Barrisford Brent Petersen is the Managing Director, thus making the years of practical legal experience gained in civil and criminal law; estates and conveyancing still available to clients. Sidney places integrity and professionalism as paramount in the service to clients in all walks of life.

Kirsty is a young, passionate researcher with promising aspirations in academia. She graduated in March 2011 with her LLB degree from The University of the Western Cape, following which she completed her articles and was admitted as an Attorney in February 2013. Kirsty has a strong customer service background, as such during her articles and thereafter she focuses on building lasting and meaningful client relationships.

Before exploring opportunities in the private sector, Kirsty's primary areas of practice were Insurance Law, Property Law and the Law of Succession. She is focused and driven, valuing integrity as a top priority. She is currently completing her Master's degree at The University of the Western Cape focusing on Gambling Legislation and specifically the possibility of legalising and regulating online gambling in South Africa. She hopes her research in the field will have an impact on job creation.

Currently, Kirsty acts as a tutor for The University of the Western Cape in their Private Law Department. As an aspiring academic she has taken the opportunity to broaden her knowledge and experience while developing educational skills and tools. Her lively and inquiring character coupled with an analytical mind set her above the rest.

Anna is a consultant at BBP Law. She is an attorney, notary and conveyancer with 17 years’ experience. Anna has also obtained her diploma in Insolvency Law and Practise (AIPSA).

Anna’s work experience includes four years at the Master of the High Court Pretoria where she held the position as an Assistant-Master, a year at Absa Trust as deceased estate administrator, two years at Tutor Trust (Pty) Ltd as Insolvent Estate Administrator and her articles as performed at Aucamp & Cronje Attorneys, where she specialized in conveyancing. Upon completion of her articles she took employment as director and head of the conveyancing department at Cilliers Hattingh Attorneys, before setting up her own practice in August of 2004.
